Family & Play

Have 100 loan approval for bad credit you heard a child rudely say to a third party, “I don’t want you” while the parents are away – seemingly attending on more pressing needs than their children. What the child is saying is, “whom I need now is my mom & dad”. Father provides identity & leadership. Mother provides daily maintenance & security for child’s soul care.

A child who is provided too many items, toys & digital input will have his attention drifting. This can promote attention deficit. Attention is an attitude of love. Child can give what he gets. Give a child two creative toys – building blocks, mechano sets. Even then the child seeks interaction. As you come home – give your first 15 minutes to the child.

Autism is quite different to ADD & ADHD. In Autism a child has a definite problem with social communications which may or may not extend to learning. Psychiatry industry, two decades ago, produced theories to have a new field for drug marketing. Marginal behavior difficulties of children were defined for prescription. At present no psychiatrist knows how which drug works. Within two years drugs can’t help but only confuse the picture. Drugging our children to “obedience” & retardation, is akin to killing the baby by abortion to solve our social problems. Many renowned Psychiatrists refuse drug therapy & resort to “Empathic Psychiatry”. This involves reciprocal activism that integrates child’s abilities & environment..

Sibling rivalry arises when the older child perceives that he is only tolerated and not loved. Remember children are more spiritual than mental. So they absorb “bad spirit” of parent or of a place. That’s why little children cry for no reason. Those who are Christians can develop the child’s spirit. Imagine what happens when your religion denies spirit & soul. Love both children equally. This needs denial of your self which exults in what you like in your child. What if you are a great musician and child cannot “hear” music? What if you got 100% for mathematics and your child is weakest in Math? Will you love him less? Will you say, “Podi Putha Thatha wage”. Parents have to humble & adjust their ambition to child’s inclination & propensity. Stop comparing. Why would a child keep asking, “Ammi do you love me”. Why does a child keep hugging you say, “I love you”. That gives her security.

Especially when one child is R/brain dominant & dreamy and the other is analytical & smart, an ugly duckling issue will arise.

Home – Child’s Nest

Children thrive on four things: attention, affection, affirmation, and acceptance. They crave affection and loving care; they desire recognition, affirmation, encouragement, and support; they must be accepted as a whole with their foibles and failures, their weaknesses as well as their strengths. This is the sort of nurture children need in their struggle toward maturity. It is their fundamental right.

Spiritual nurture is absolutely essential in a child’s life. Children deserve to be brought up in the nurture and discipline of the godly values. Fathers must take the lead in matters spiritual. But in our time fathers have largely turned this task over to mothers. Greg Walcott, the veteran movie and TV star, once told that he played the role of priest in his home. Then it was understood why he and his family were different from the typical Hollywood family.

Some mothers also desert their responsibility of raising their offspring. The ostrich hatches its young without incubation, depositing her eggs in the sand to be hatched by the sun’s heat. Here her function as a mother ends. Like the ostrich, some mothers drop their responsibility for their children at birth. Or like the cowbird that does not build a nest but lays her eggs in the nest of other birds, some mothers want others to raise their children.

Child like man is spirit, soul & body. Most parents train the child’s body with sports & soul with study neglecting the most potent third of the child – his spirit. Also parents write the wrongs of others, show envy & ask children to do right. Father forgive – is the way forward for all generational gaps.  Life without the Good Shepherd is like a sail boat without the compass. We make the way & write our rules. When children come of age, they do as we do – what seems right in their eyes to impress their peers.

Parents Do Not Eat Sour Grapes

Because Children’s Teeth & Morals Are Set on Edge

Morals on the edge concern everybody. Digital input sets the moral & spiritual tone of the child very young. Children exposed to fast & loud music grow more neuronal synapses in the prefrontal cortex. Same happens with watching violent movies, fast games such as motor racing and with an overdose of digital games. These have become baby sitters in homes where both parents work and have their own things to do while the child is attended by others.  Those who have “over wired” prefrontal cortex are predisposed to sudden provocation and unpremeditated violence (knee jerk reactions).

The overstimulation by digital input is mediated in the brain via chemo-transmitters such as serotonin. These children develop mechanical responses to life based on chemical stimulation of the brain. They later become victims to heroin addiction and other substance abuse. In this chemically stimulated life, food or other appetites are needed only to maintain the machine like person that the digital machines created – especially digital games. Addictions become a part of their life. This includes aberrations of sex, pornography & gambling for gain. This is why many youngsters play the Stock Market On Line. Beating the credit card is also a self defeating debt binding addiction.

At the age of 14 years, the brain edits down all synaptic connections to 50%. This means whatever the child’s brain was fed will be present in preponderance. When fed with digital images, the left brain functions are synaptically woven more than right brain functions of analysis. We produce dreamers.  We need to provide our children a better balanced mental, moral & spiritual diet. There are parts of brain that respond to spiritual input that can be activated even after brain damage may short circuit other parts of the brain. This is why parents should concentrate on a wholesome life for the child without driving him to run their rat races.

Some research suggests that the Corpus callosum area (bridge between right & left cerebral hemispheres) is closely connected to hippocampus & limbic areas associated with spiritual phenomena. It may be able to develop this area by spiritual worship. A better developed corpus callosum provides for greater interaction between L/brain & R/brain function which can lead to brilliance – multifaceted ability. After damage to one side or an area of the brain, spiritual boot up may help in recovery of function, since the spiritual memory works o other pathways. This does not mean that all spirituality is a brain function. Rather that a certain part of the brain responds to spiritual activity.

iY Generation

You are already familiar with Generation Y. May we introduce you to Generation iY. These are the young people born since 1990. We call them the iY Generation because of the impact of iPods, iPhones, iChat, iTunes, iMovies, iMacs… and the fact that life for them is often about “i.”

They are a new breed of student. They are different than the Baby Boomers and Generation X before them. The Boomers asked: Why? Generation X asked: Why ask why? This new generation asks: Why not? They are confident, tech savvy, opinionated, bold, and social. The earlier research on them, however, is now inaccurate. Due to technology, the parenting styles of their mom and dad, teaching methods, and the chemicals in their foods, they display a new set of characteristics:

  • They are self absorbed.
  • They are postponing maturation.
  • They are addicted to media.
  • They are medicated
  • They feel entitled

A New Kind Of A Leader

They are surfacing everywhere today. In business, in government, in the military, in non-profits, in schools and in churches. They are a new breed of leader who empowers teams and accomplishes their mission in fundamentally different ways than past leaders.

Over the last fifty years, the world has seen at least five different approaches to leadership. Good leaders seldom change in substance, but they always change in style, based on the culture and the people they attempt to influence. The substance of good leadership involves ingredients such as integrity, vision, delegation, proper priorities and good planning. However, the style of good leadership reflects the times. For instance…

1. 1950s – The acceptable style was the Military Commander
2. 1960s-1970s – The acceptable style was the CEO
3. 1980s – The acceptable style was the Entrepreneur
4. 1990s – The acceptable style was the Coach
5. Today – The emerging style is the leader as a “Poet-Gardener.”
