Triangle of Debtors

The son, Michael comes last in class and comes 100 guaranteed payday loan approval home feeling guilty that the effort of his parents look wasted.   He is greeted by his angry father, Daniel, whose uncontrolled wrath makes Michael aggressive.

Daniel: You are a good for nothing son. You have wasted my money. (He could have said – Son, I am so sad for you for this bad performance)

Michael: Let me tell you; you are a good for nothing absent father. (He could have said – Dad I am also very sorry that I did so badly)

After wounding each other both return sullenly to quiet corners. Daniel remembers how his father (John) had similar outbursts about him. Daniel’s every memory of his father, John is painful. So we have a debt triangle – John, Daniel, Michael. Daniel however vents his anger on his wife, Joan.

Daniel: All this is because you are spoiling that fellow.

Joan : I am not spoiling Michael but trying to cover up for the brutal treatment he gets from you.

Daniel develops a spurious Debt triangle on his father/son gap. Spurious debt triangles make others who are not relevant the debtor. What Daniel can do is to make God the apex of the triangle where his debt relationship with his son is the base. When God enters, He can provide the ransom.

We are called to be like our Father in heaven – we are to be debt cancellers rather than debt collectors. We are to be redeemers rather than enslavers. As long as you remain a debtor to God (with sins unforgiven ), you will have   a lifestyle of keeping debt. Are you one who cancels debts or collects debts? The Lord Jesus knew the power of uncancelled debt in the lives of people. He wanted us no teletrack payday loan companies to be debt free in our relationships. Our greatest debt is towards God.

The Lord’s Prayer

Mat 6:9 -15   Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors.

For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you;

but if you do not forgive   men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Debt Collectors Are Unhappy

Zacheus was a debt collector who was unhappy. It is not only the debtor who is under the burden. When you own a debt over another you too suffer. You have no rest wondering how that debt may be recovered. It may be a financial debt or it may be a debt of gratitude or debt of honour you feel is due. Every time you watch to see whether that person will pay the dues. When Jesus came into Zacheus ‘ life..

Luke 19:8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” (NKJ)

We are mortgaged under sin and we have to be redeemed by a Ransom whose holiness can pay for our sin. When we let go the debtor whom we hold by the scruff of his neck (E.g. A wife holds the offending husband tight bound in memories of sin), then only will Christ be available as our ransom. Often we hold the debtor to his sin as if he can pay our damage. When I let go, Christ becomes my sufficient Redeemer.
